For the last couple of months we have been working with a client for a fairly large complex project involving classically themed music and a choir. Our client simply brings in their compositions and we map them out with a piano directly into Pro tools. Our next step was to assemble their choir and arrange their schedules so we can record all of their pieces. We have recently completed that stage and we are now deep into arranging the musical accompaniment writing the violin, cello and upright pieces “string arrangements” along with woodwinds, brass and others it is really coming together. I am quite please with where this is all heading!
Writing new musical pieces to someone else’s composition can be somewhat daunting until you find your groove inside the song. If you are intuitive you’ll start to see, understand and feel what the music is trying to say and from that point forward its a cake walk. I really enjoy expanding myself and doing new things though this type of project is not all that new to me it is still practice. It’s a practice in my craft that affords me to hone my skills and become better and better as I move along my musical road. I truly love seeing the smile on my clients faces and watching them light up when they hear their song come to life in the recording studio for the very first time!
At the end of the day if you find yourself sitting in a recording studio in Los Angeles realizing you truly love what you do and if you are able to survive while you do it you are truly blessed. Because the heart pays you what money can not afford joy and well being! A life with out music for me is not anything I want to experience I just thank God for life and while I am at it I thank him for music too!

Hey everyone I hope you are all well! Today we are working with another new client its a hip hop group based out of the Salt Lake area. We are working at the Odgen recording studio and this will be our 4th song with this clients obviously they love the work! And I personally love doing it-Ha!
We have one song in the oven its already cut, just awaiting the mix and final master then another one we will track today on this beautiful Northern Utah Sunday.
I have rewired a lot of stuff in the studio recently and I finally have my vision in nearly full perspective. I have accomplished I’d say at least 80-90% of my vision and then some successfully at this studio thus far here’s a little break down. Equipment nearly 95%, aesthetics nearly 98% and functionality and options nearly 99% and vision nearly 95% right now we are just really working on the market which is key to any new or old company for that matter.
Remember I told you about the new song that’s kind of a 80’s kick back I am working on with a clients a couple of days ago, well it is coming along very well. We are doing the full production and recording of all instruments including the vocals with mix and master that I am really excited about its becoming a great fun song. I will give you links once it’s complete.
Well everyone I am signing off for now be safe and and keep on making music!

Hey Guys I hope you are well! Well I had a late night last night, let me clarify for me it was the all too dreaded all-nighter in the recording studio uggggggggggh. But on a brighter note we did get a lot done I am working with a client on a kick back 1980’s feel/vibe song. We have almost all of the music produced and it’s a pretty catchy little melody line of which I had a hand in writing…Ha!
The track reminds me of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean with the pumping bass line and tight mid tempo impact drums, I think this song has very good potential.
Once the music production is complete we will be moving on to recording some awesome vocals and I have got a lot of old tricks, people always ask me, “How did you do that?” But man oh man have I got some new trick up my sleeve and I can not wait to put them to task! Exciting…so all and all an all-nighter here and there it isn’t so, SO bad if you get the work done and you have a few extra hours the next day to catch up on your much beloved beauty rest:D
Thanks for stopping by! Once we get rolling I will post you some tips, tricks and perspectives for music production and recording especially acoustic instruments and vocals and we will get to know each other better as we move along! Hit me up with any questions in the comment section!

Ok let me start with this, “With out great vocals in very hard to recognize a great song!” What makes a great vocal you ask? I will highlight a few areas to give you an idea…but before I do that let me assure you a great vocal isn’t much with out a great song as the two go hand and hand. It is a great song which bring recognition to ones own “vocal talent” and a great song well I will have plenty of time to get into that in another blog.
What Makes A Great Vocal Highlights:
- Pitch: “Are you on key?”
- Emotion: “Do I believe what you are saying?”
- Relatability: “Can I relate to it?”
- Record Quality: “High quality recording.”
These 4 things are the life blood of a captivating vocal. Miss just one of these four and you miss your fans and/or any potential new fans.

Hey guys this evening I have been sitting in the recording studio surfing the web/youtube for new music and new artist and I happened to stumble across a previously unknown artist I had worked with in LA. I produced several songs for them one that I produced has got over 4.5 million plays not bad for an independent! Rock on…I am glad to see it’s moving along keep it up! I am such a music fan and not of any particular genre either I just plain love good music! I am a fan of pop, pop rock, hip hop, rnb, country, gospel, classic rock, new age jazz and many other forms of great music! To me its all about the song, memorable melody lines and the words more than anything else because that to me is the root of music!
Speaking of Youtube there is so much weird stuff on there its kind of freaky and I don’t think youtube is for kids! Dear God can we get better video and content filter? Even I sometimes I get sucked into weird stuff that I didn’t want to watch and I have to smack myself in the face to snap out of it. The dreaded look of the disgust on my face while watching some of these videos, I am sure its leaving imprints “in” my monitor…Somehow its melting the pixels and leaving a permanent negative energy trail that looks a lot like this
Anyways I felt productive today! I washed laundry and even hopped into the recording studio for a minute to work on a couple forthcoming songs! I hope you guys are well…

Welcome to our first blog post! I just wanted to give you the heads up we will be talking a lot here about life and music and everything related PLUS unrelated stuff too!
We will put audio editing and mixing and mastering tips as well as software and music production tips too! We hope you will find our advice useful and our blog entertaining! Recording Studio LA would like to thank all of clients through out the years its is because of you that we can continue doing what we do and what we love which is music!
The first and most important thing about music production is knowing how to use your equipment/software because with today technology you can make professional quality music inside just about any format. However the recording of vocals and acoustic instruments, drums, guitars and pianos etc is a different creature all together. This requires very refined equipment, microphone cables, soundcards and the whole shebang, but simply making beats or musical instrumentals using virtual instruments is far less critical.
There are so many options out there when talking virtual instrument it’s hard to choose the best my suggestion is to go with brand name companies that everyone knows. They will almost always be up to par and they have a reason to protect themselves against releasing some half finished sloppy products.
My second suggestion when trying to write a hit record is #1 listen to hit records and ask your self a few simple questions: How does it sound? How does it feel? What is the music itself saying? How do the words and melody work together to capture the listeners attention? Once you can dig deeply into that you will start to understand how music works more clearly and you will find yourself much closer to writing one these masterpieces! As with all things “practice makes perfect” or truth be told “practice refines”. So first listen to what others have done, break it down until it makes sense to you and then practice “PRACTICE”.
